Holistic Holiday at Sea truly was a wonderful, relaxing vacation experience. With over 45 teachers and 150 classes, this cruise was beyond amazing. Curious about what a typical day was like with these plant based doctors?

We had classes from 7 am to 10 pm every day. As soon as you wake up, you had 5 choices at every hour: yoga, meditation, running, pilates, stretching, you name it! At 9 am lectures started: cooking classes, panel discussions, and so much more. We had book signings and social events. The days were jam-packed.

Being on this cruise was such an amazing experience to be amongst thousands of compassionate people in the Caribbean Sea! – hearing the amazing expert lecturers by famous doctors – doing yoga classes on deck in the morning sun and rainbow – sitting in on cooking classes and food tasting – being able to eat all plant-based, no-oil meals prepared by chefs – meeting and spending time with other plant-based lifestyle like-minded people

It was an honor to meet so many amazing experts in the field of plant-based medicine.

Dr. T. Colin Campbell,  the author of the best-selling book, The China Study and Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition. With more than 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding (mostly NIH), he has authored over 300 research papers on diet, nutrition and health derived from laboratory-based experimental research and large-scale human studies in China and the Philippines.  Had several conversations not only with Dr. Campbell, but his wife, son Nelson and daughter in-law Kim.

Dr. Michael Greger is a founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, a physician, author and internationally-recognized speaker on nutrition, food safety and public health issues. He has lectured at the Conference on World Affairs, testified before Congress, appeared on The Dr. Oz Show and The Colbert Report, and was invited as an expert witness in the defense of Oprah Winfrey in the infamous “meat defamation” trial.

Rip Esselstyn is the founder of Engine 2 and a Healthy Eating Partner for Whole Foods Market. At Engine 2, Rip develops and implements plant-based programs that transform people’s health worldwide. Rip was a three-time All-American swimmer at the University of Texas at Austin and spent a decade as a world-class triathlete. Rip’s New York Times bestselling book, The Engine 2 Diet, documents his success and shows the irrefutable connection between a plant-based diet and good health. His follow up, Plant-Strong, became a #1 New York Times bestseller.

Dr. Neal Barnard is the president and founder of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. He is the editor-in- chief of the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians and the author of more than 15 books on nutrition and health for lay readers. His research has been cited by the American Diabetes Association and the American Dietetic Association in official policy statements on healthful diets.

Dr. Michael Klaper is an acclaimed physician and health educator, known for his illuminating and humorous presentations on reversing disease and enhancing health through better nutrition. A long-time radio host and author, Dr. Klaper currently practices nutritionally-based medicine at True North Health Center in California. His talent for presenting complex medical topics in a simple, enjoyable format has made him a sought-after speaker at health conferences across the country as well as internationally.  We had amazing conversations over lunch with Dr. Klaper and his wife Alese.

Dr. Joel Kahn has been plant-based for 40 years and is known as “America’s Healthy Heart Doc.” He has expertise in both interventional and preventive therapies emphasizing lifestyle changes. He combines his university professorship with his love of patients, making his presentations sought after coast to coast. He is the author of three books, including The Whole Heart Solution.

We had heard so much about James Aspey and were thrilled and delighted to meet him the first night on the vegan cruise.  Had several conversations with him and Carly over the next 10 days and were amazed with how much he has accomplished.  James was diagnosed with leukemia and T-cell Lymphoma in 1994. After being told he had six weeks to live, he endured intense chemotherapy and remains in remission to this day. Now, over a decade later, James is vegan and an animal rights activist from Sydney, Australia. In 2014, he embarked on an unprecedented and life-changing challenge. James took a 365 day vow of silence to raise awareness for animals and promote peace over violence. He traveled throughout Australia and cycled 5,000 kilometers from Darwin to Sydney for his campaign, Voiceless365. He broke his vow of silence on Australia’s most popular morning TV show in an iconic, live interview that was viewed by millions. Since then, James has shared more about his past, including a history of drug abuse and bulimia, and his road to full recovery. In 2016, he was tattooed for 24 hours straight to raise money for charity, and he has given over 150 free speeches on his journey. One of his speeches has over 11 million views online, and the list of people inspired by James is long and growing every day.

Daily yoga sessions, pilates, cardio and meditation were done overlooking the ocean and rainbows too.  We had classes 7 am to 10 pm every day. As soon as you wake up, you have 5 choices at every hour: yoga, meditation, running, pilates, stretching, you name it!  At 9 am lectures started: cooking classes, panel discussions, and more. We had book signings and social events. The days were jam-packed with activities and educations seminars.

Cooking Classes

We learned how to get started and keep it interesting with beginner and advanced vegan cooking classes taught by Julieanna Hever, a Registered Dietitian who has authored Vegiterranean Diet and the best-selling book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition. Julieanna has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, The Steve Harvey Show, Reluctantly Healthy, The Marie Osmond Show, The Jane Velez-Mitchell Show, and E! News, co-stars on The Chef and the Dietitian, and lectures extensively throughout the world.

Kim Campbell is the author of The PlantPure Nation Cookbook and The PlantPure Kitchen. Kim is also the Director of Culinary Education at PlantPure, Inc., where she works with her husband, Nelson, promoting a whole foods, plant-based diet.

Jessica Porter is an exciting and interesting teacher/author, but much more she is the funniest lady I know and has a way of transmitting important life enhancing wisdom with a humor that is truly uplifting.

Meeting with Chef Mike Hanna – Sandy and head cruise chef Mark Hanna published a cruise cookbook, Greens and Grains on the Deep Blue Sea, which features the recipes served by Mark during the cruise.
