Mouthwatering Dish Kichdi Recipe – 2 Simple Ingredients (daal & rice)

Khichdi

Khichdi is an indian dish made from rice and red lentils (daal). This is a childhood favorite recipe that I've incorporated over the years to make a healthier version without using any ghee or oils. Hope you enjoy it as much as our family does!

Ingredients

  1. 2 -3 Cups of Brown or Basmati Rice

  2. 1/2 Cup Masoor Dal

  3. 1 Cup Chopped Onions

  4. 3 Green Chillies sliced

  5. 1 tbsp Chopped Mint

  6. 6 Cloves

  7. 2 Cinnamon sticks

  8. 1 tsp Shah Jeera

  9. 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste

  10. 1/2 tsp Turmeric

  11. Salt to Taste

Instructions

Mix the rice and masoor daal. Wash and soak this in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

In a pot add cloves, cinnamon and shah jeera.

Add the onions and ginger garlic paste.

Saute the onions in a tspn of water until it is browned.

Add turmeric, green chillies and mint ant mix well.

Add the soaked and drained rice and masoor daal, mix it together.

Add 2 cups of water and salt and mix everything.

Cover and cook till the rice and lentils are done on slow flame or a rice cooker.

Serve hot with Tomato Chutney and Chickpea Flour veggie Omelettes. Enjoy!
